Home away from home – What are the best budget accommodation options in Cape Town?

In our opinion, the place you choose to call home for the time you are in Cape Town will be one of the most impacting aspects of your trip.   It is crucial that you to feel safe, at ease and happy in your accommodation, whilst being able to independently appreciate the easy paced lifestyle Cape Town offers.

At Bridging Gaps our number one recommendation for accommodation in Cape Town is backpacking hostels.   In general you will find that most of the budget accommodation designed for travellers is comfortable, clean and certainly the best place to stay if you want to meet awesome like-minded people from around the world with whom you can share your experiences of Cape Town!

In most backpackers you will have a choice to stay in a dorm style room which is the most affordable option; however for only a small amount more there are also single and twin rooms available.  Although each of the backpackers in and around Cape Town are unique in style and vibe, you will find that most of them offer similar facilities; multiple communal areas for mingling with new friends, an on-site bar, a swimming pool, an array of room types, a travel centre, wifi facilities, braai areas, an on-site restaurant/café and a communal kitchen.

Here are our personal recommendations for the best backpackers in and around Cape Town:

Once in Cape Town is possibly the coolest spot in town.  It is situated right in the centre of Kloof street, one of the trendiest roads in the city, and next door to ‘Yours Truly’, a coffee shop/bar which is every hip Capetonian’s favourite place to hang out.   The backpackers itself is incredibly stylish and modern and has an amazing terrace bar which overlooks the city.  Although it tops all the other backpackers in terms of the food and drinks available, it does lack the serenity of a private pool and garden and there really is no escaping the hustle and bustle of city life.
